Assessment of ecosystem services provided by the wetland

A detailed study on ecosystem services provided by the lake and feasibility to initiate Payment of Ecosystem Services (PES) is under progress.

One of the key interventions of the project is to initiate mechanism of collecting revenue from the visitors and make the Beeshazar Lake Conservation Committee (BLCC) self-sustained in the future. The BLCC has started to charge entry fee with visitors (NPR. 25 to Nepali, NPR. 500 to foreigners as entry fee and NPR. 700 for a vehicle entry) since May 2015. The lake gets >10,000 visitors every year. The BLCC will use 50% of the collected revenue for lake restoration and management and 50% for community engagements. Similarly, the project has initiated dialogue with local government and other partners for their contribution on wetland conservation.
